You and your friend grabbed a handful of treats at the party. Scan the pile below โ€” can you tell about how many there are before counting each one?

About this game

Estimation Party builds number sense by asking students to estimate a collection without counting one by one. Students scan a pile of party treats, decide whether there are less than 10, more than 10 or more than 100, and estimate to the nearest ten.

Best for: Years 1 to 3

How to play

  1. Look at the pile of treats (or hide them to make it harder).
  2. Compare the pile with a group of ten in your head.
  3. Lock in your estimate to the nearest ten.
  4. Count in bundles of ten to check how close you were.
