Grouping with Remainders introduces division as making equal groups. Students take a collection, make groups of a given size, then find how many groups they made and how many are left over (the remainder).
Best for: Years 2 to 3
How to play
Read how many objects there are and how big each group should be.
Make groups of that size, one group at a time.
Count how many full groups you made.
Count the remainder and enter both answers.
Teaching tips
Use real counters or blocks at the same time so students can check.
Compare with Sharing with Remainders to show the two types of division.
