About this game
Mark and Move teaches students how to measure lengths longer than their ruler. They line up a metre ruler at zero, mark where it ends, move it along end to end, and count the metres. Then they compare two lines to see which is longer.
Best for: Years 2 to 3
How to play
- Line the ruler up with the start of the line.
- Mark where the ruler ends, then move the ruler to that mark.
- Repeat until you reach the end of the line, then count the metres.
- Record the length and compare the two lines.
Teaching tips
- Practise mark and move in the playground with a real metre ruler or trundle wheel.
- Talk about why there should be no gaps or overlaps between moves.
- Try About a Metre? first so students know how long a metre is.
