About this game
Count by Threes builds fluency with the threes skip-counting sequence on a number line. Students start at zero and jump forward three each time, then practise counting backwards, which prepares them for the 3 times table.
Best for: Years 2 to 3
How to play
- Start at zero on the number line.
- Jump forward 3 and type the number you land on.
- Keep jumping to continue the pattern, or switch to counting backwards.
- Use the scoreboard and streak to track your progress.
Teaching tips
- Chant the sequence together as a class before playing.
- Ask students what they notice about the pattern (odd, even, odd, even).
- Use the printable worksheet on this page for follow-up practice.
