About this tool

Torch Words turns sight word practice into a hunt. The screen goes dark and students shine a torch with the mouse or a finger to find hidden words, then read them aloud.

Best for: Foundation to Year 2

How to use it

1. Type in your sight word list.
2. Choose the torch size, how dark it is and the background.
3. Students move the torch to find a word.
4. Read the word aloud and keep hunting.

• Call out a word and ask students to find it.
• Make the torch smaller for more of a challenge.
• Use your class's high-frequency word list.
