About this game

Volume Builder lets students build 3D models with cubes and MAB longs, turn them around and pull the layers apart. Seeing every layer helps students understand volume as the number of cubes, including the cubes they cannot see.

Best for: Years 2 to 4

How to play

1. Choose Free Build, Build It or Count It.
2. Tap to place cubes or longs, and drag to turn the model.
3. Pull the layers apart to count one layer at a time.
4. Check your model or your count.

Teaching tips

• Have real cubes available so students can build the same model.
• Ask: how many cubes are hidden? How do you know?
• Link to multiplication by counting the cubes in one layer and multiplying by the number of layers.
